Start with texture, then add contrast
Choose one anchor such as a woven chair, a patterned cabinet or a substantial console. Balance its texture with quieter upholstery, then introduce a mirror, lamp or decorative object that repeats a shape or finish. You can suggest a coastal room without making every piece tropical.
Plan the proportions
Compare the overall measurements with your room plan and the furniture you already own. For seating, ask about seat height and depth as well as overall size. Leave room for doors, drawers and a comfortable walking route around each piece.
Read the material and condition notes
Bamboo, rattan, cane and wood carved to resemble bamboo are different materials. Look at the close-up photographs and ask about loose wrapping, finish wear or repairs. A style description does not establish a designer attribution or a manufacturing date.
