Let the decoration stand out
Place a painted cabinet, detailed lamp or patterned vessel against a quieter backdrop. Pick up one color or shape elsewhere in the room to connect it to your furniture. Compare the dimensions carefully, especially for tall lamps, screens and substantial decorative objects.
Look closely at painted details
Review the surface photographs for finish wear, losses, touch-ups and repairs. For ceramic objects, ask about chips, cracks and restoration. Check whether a lid, stand, shade or base is included, and whether any visible fittings are later additions.
Read origin and attribution separately
Decorative motifs alone do not identify where or when a piece was made. Consult the recorded provenance, marks and condition notes, and ask for more detail if the attribution matters to your project. Confirm practical needs such as cabinet clearance or lamp wiring before purchase.
