Choose a clear focal point
A geometric cabinet, curved chair or striking mirror can set the tone for the room. Repeat one line or finish in a smaller accent, then keep neighboring pieces restrained. Check the scale against your existing furniture before committing to a statement piece.
Inspect polished finishes
Look closely at veneer, lacquer, metal trim, glass and mirror edges in the photographs. Ask about chips, lifting veneer, clouding, refinishing and replacement parts. Reflective surfaces can show wear differently under changing light, so request additional views when needed.
Distinguish period from style
An Art Deco description can refer to the design vocabulary rather than a confirmed date. Review the listing's period and attribution separately. For cabinets, lighting and mirrors, also confirm operation, wiring or mounting requirements so the piece works in its intended setting.
